Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I am excited to be running for the Ocean View School District Board.

My husband and I are local business owners and have made Huntington Beach our home for the past 18 years. Six of our children have attended schools in the Ocean View School District.

Over the past 18 years, I have been an active volunteer in my community. I have volunteered in each of my children’s schools, participated as a member of each school’s PTA, participated in many fundraising events and always assisted whenever and wherever I was needed. I am also currently serving on the City of Huntington Beach Finance Commission.

I became very concerned after I was appointed to the OVSD Bond Oversight Committee representing the OC Tax Association. While serving on the committee, it became apparent to me that transparency and accountability were non-existent. The governance of the district had deteriorated. OVSD is deficit spending and reducing student programs resulting in lower test scores and an annual drop in student enrollment.

That’s when I knew I had to do more than just volunteer. I decided to run for OVSD School Board because I feel an obligation to give back to the community that I love.

As a mother, I want the best for my children and I want the best for the community in which we live. As a business owner, I have the management and financial skills to address the many issues facing the district.

If you elect me to OVSD school board, I promise to:

- Advocate for Children first

- Balance the Budget

- Stop Deficit Spending

- Be Transparent and Accountable to Parents and the Community

- Improve finances that provide for attractive salaries and student programs

I am an independent candidate and need your help to get elected. If you agree with me, please help by voting for me; telling your friends and neighbors about my campaign; post a yard sign; walk your neighborhood or make a donation through my website at  If you prefer to mail a donation you can email me at and I will send out a donation envelope.

Thank you for your support,

Gracey Van Der Mark, Candidate for OVSD School Board
