Mark Jensen earned his Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from Iowa State University after receiving a B.A. from Northwestern College (Iowa) with majors in chemistry and mathematics. Dr. Jensen is a professor of chemistry and director of the CLIMB and STEM Discovery programs. Since coming to ÄϹÏÓ°Ôº in 1997, his primary teaching responsibilities have included upper-level analytical chemistry (Chem 330 and 431) as well as introductory chemistry (Chem 117, 127, and 128). Dr. Jensen’s research interests include new methods of extracting target compounds from the environment for analysis with GC and HPLC, as well as the use of scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) for studying the corrosion of active metals. He is also interested in developing active learning strategies for analytical chemistry courses, with a particular emphasis on the incorporation of the LabVIEW programming language.
